From Vet Student to Realtor: Meet Selling Sunset’s Alanna Gold

Alanna Gold is the newest star set to grace the screens of the popular Netflix reality show Selling Sunset. As the latest addition to The Oppenheim Group, Gold is ready to dive into the world of high-end real estate in Los Angeles. However, her journey to becoming a luxury realtor was anything but conventional. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Gold opened up about her unique path, which started far from the glitz and glamour of the real estate industry.

From Small Town Veterinary Student to International Model

Gold, 32, hails from Nobleton, a small town just outside of Toronto, Canada. Growing up, her dream was far removed from the world of luxury homes and reality TV. Instead, she aspired to become a veterinarian, a career choice that seemed fitting for a small-town girl who loved animals. But as fate would have it, her path was destined to take a very different turn.

“I was originally studying to be a vet,” Gold recalls. “I was going to university, focused on my studies, when out of the blue, I was discovered for modeling.” It was an unexpected opportunity, but one that she felt compelled to pursue, especially since there was one significant obstacle standing in the way of her veterinary dreams: she was allergic to animals.

The modeling world quickly swept her up, and before she knew it, Gold was traveling the globe, working in major fashion capitals like Tokyo, New York City, and Paris. Her career took off, and she spent nearly five years living in New York, soaking up the fast-paced lifestyle and honing her craft. But despite her success in the fashion industry, something inside her yearned for a different life. It was during a two-month modeling gig in Los Angeles that she felt a deep connection to the city and realized it was where she truly wanted to be.

A Pandemic Pivot: Transitioning to Real Estate

When Gold eventually made the move to Los Angeles, she knew she wanted to pursue something more meaningful. “I immediately felt like I wanted to do something bigger here,” she says. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The COVID-19 pandemic hit shortly after her arrival, and with the world on pause, Gold found herself with the time and space to reflect on her future.

“I knew that was an amazing chance to get my real estate license,” she shares. “When everything kind of shut down, I really spent those months just studying, and I went for my license and got it.”

Real estate had long intrigued her, and once she started working in the industry, she realized she had found her true calling. “When I started working in this industry, I loved it,” Gold says. “I realized that I didn’t want to go back into modeling. I really wanted to put all my time into real estate.” The shift from fashion to real estate may have seemed drastic to some, but for Gold, it was the perfect fit.

Reflecting on her journey, she says, “The path I was headed when I was studying to be a vet is not the path that I see myself on today. I’m so grateful that I got thrown in a different direction.” It’s clear that her time in real estate has brought her immense satisfaction and a renewed sense of purpose.

A New Chapter: Joining Selling Sunset

Gold’s entry into the world of luxury real estate eventually led her to The Oppenheim Group, and from there, it wasn’t long before she found herself on the radar of Selling Sunset, one of Netflix’s most popular reality series. The opportunity to join the show came quickly, and while it was an exciting prospect, Gold admits that she had to take a moment to consider the impact it would have on her life.

“There was a little bit of hesitation there, of course, just thinking about how it will change my life,” she explains. “It was this big shift, and I really had to evaluate it.” The decision to step into the spotlight wasn’t taken lightly, but ultimately, Gold decided to embrace the opportunity with an open heart and mind.

“I did go through all of the emotions,” she confesses. “But at the end of the day, I was like, ‘What is life for?’ Just put yourself out there and take opportunities as they come.” It’s a mindset that has served her well, both in her career and in her personal life.

Navigating the Drama with Grace

As the newest member of the Selling Sunset cast, Gold is stepping into a world known for its high stakes, luxury properties, and, of course, plenty of drama. But she’s ready to navigate it all with grace and poise. “I just kind of made a promise to myself to stay true to who I am,” she says. “I wanted to really stick up for the things that I believe in, but also not get involved with things that don’t involve me.”

Despite the inevitable drama that comes with reality TV, Gold hints that she managed to handle it in a way that she’s “proud of.” She also credits some of her co-stars, particularly Chrishell Stause and Mary Bonnet, for helping her feel welcome. “They’ve been especially sweet to me through it all,” she notes.

A Supportive Partner and Family

Throughout this whirlwind journey, Gold has leaned on the support of her loved ones, particularly her husband, Adam Gold, whom she married in 2022. She recalls how instrumental he was in helping her make the decision to join Selling Sunset. “He was very helpful through the process,” she says. “I think he was actually one reason why I felt very confident to be able to do it. I knew I had his support, and I knew we’re a team through everything.”

Her family, too, has been a constant source of encouragement. “My family was also very excited, and they’ve always been supportive of my choices and what I wanted to do,” Gold shares.
