Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton’s marriage went up in flames in July 2015. For some of us, the split seems like ages ago, but the Internet still has suspicions about Miranda and Blake’s failed romance.

Shockingly, Miranda recently came clean and responded to some lingering rumors about Blake.

She’s setting the record straight without actually referring to her ex-husband by name. You need to listen to this, and you might not believe it when you do.

Miranda Lambert Seemingly Spills The Tea On Blake Shelton

On September 24th, Country Cast took a deep dive into the Blake rumors that continue to swirl around Miranda. It makes perfect sense to report on this since Miranda released her new album, Postcards from Texas, in September 2024.

Country Cast focused on “one song in particular on [Miranda’s] record.” This song certainly has a suspicious title and is track number seven on the album. Miranda revealed that she had written this song herself and called it “Run.”

Miranda and Blake’s fans are starting to obsess over this song because they’re convinced that Miranda is spilling the tea about her divorce from Blake in music and lyrics.

Country Cast said Miranda’s album is “getting good reviews from fans and critics.” That’s great news for Miranda, but the real truth is that she has a ton of interviews to do so that people will buy that album, and everyone keeps asking her about “Run” and if it’s got anything to do with Blake.

Kelleigh Bannen recently interviewed Miranda for Today’s Country Radio, and Miranda revealed another side of the story.

Miranda said country artists usually release an album every two to three years. It’s like a “snapshot” of where they are now and where they’re going.

But not for Miranda. A lot has happened to her in the last five years. She got remarried to Brendan McLoughlin, left her old label for a new one, and turned 40. For Miranda, there have been plenty of “full circle moments.”

Is Miranda’s Song ‘Run’ About Blake Shelton?

Miranda explained to Kelleigh that she just wanted to go home and reset. She also felt more creative freedom to explore issues on her new album “from the last two decades” of her life versus “the last two years.” Was that a major hint about Blake?

Country Cast reported what else Miranda said on Today’s Country Radio. She wrote “Run” about a decade ago, and Country Cast thinks it “roughly lines up” with her split from Blake.

The lyrics in “Run” are shocking, and Miranda sings, “It wasn’t that you didn’t have the answers, there was just no question in my mind, I was going to run.”

If that’s not enough for you, Miranda also sings, “You took too long to see I was unhappy, and I took too long to tell you that I was going to run.” Those are definitely bombshell lyrics, but Miranda wasn’t done spilling the tea in her interview with Kelleigh.

Miranda Lambert Said ‘It Might Feel Too Raw’

Miranda confessed that she didn’t have the nerve to record “Run” at first because she knew “how hard it would be… to sing live.”

Miranda has since admitted that she wasn’t “ready to perform [Run] until now.” But for Miranda, that’s “what songs are for.”

She’s explained that a singer-songwriter might “not be ready at that one time to sing about something really raw.” If you’re wondering what Miranda meant by “raw,” she got way more specific.

Miranda dropped a major hint about her new songs that have themes about “alimony” or “going through a divorce.”

She explained that when it’s happening to you at the moment, “it might not be funny” or “it might feel too raw.” However, a song might “come back around” at the right time to record and perform.

Miranda’s interview with Variety was published on September 19th. This article contains many revealing quotes from Miranda about the songs on her new record and how they reflect her real life.

She held nothing back, even when they mentioned Blake. Surprisingly, Miranda also confessed that Brendan had convinced her to record the song, allegedly about her ex-husband.

Miranda Admits To ‘A Piece Of My Story’ In ‘Every Single Song’

Variety listened closely to every song on Postcards from Texas. They wrote that Miranda’s album is like “a mixture of super-personal stuff” and songs where she just seems to be having “fun.”

One of Miranda’s “fun” songs is “Alimony,” where a woman is “threatening divorce and threatening to collect a big payday if someone doesn’t shape up.” Variety didn’t think that song had anything to do with Miranda’s life “story.” However, they talked about her parents being “private investigators,” and they figured she’d grown up hearing lots of juicy gossip about divorce.

However, Miranda said that “there’s a piece of my story is probably every single song” on her new album. She also revealed that she’s in “the place in [her] life where all [her] friends are getting remarried for the second time.”

Miranda discussed “the beauty of getting to make music.” She said, “You get to make the story what you want… and put little pieces of you in it.”

After she dropped that bombshell, Variety said, “Let’s talk a little bit about ‘Run.’” Miranda talked—a whole bunch.

Miranda Lambert’s Bombshell Confessions

Variety confirmed with Miranda that “Run” is a “solo write,” meaning she composed the lyrics and melody “without any collaborators.” Variety described it as “a really stark, raw song” that Miranda wrote long ago. Then, Variety brought up Miranda’s new husband, and what Miranda admitted is almost too crazy to believe.

Variety asked Miranda if it was true that Brendan “convinced” her she “needed to cut ‘Run’ after all this time.” Again, this song is allegedly about Blake, and Miranda said that Brendan “actually did” convince her to record and release the song for her new album.

After Variety scored that huge confession from Miranda, they talked about how “interesting” it was for people to think that her new husband convinced her to go public with such a hugely personal song about her ex-husband. Variety asked Miranda, “Is there anything you can say about that?”

Miranda repeated what she had said before. She “just wasn’t ready to cut this song yet.” Then, she started dropping little bombshells.

Miranda claimed she doesn’t do this “on every record,” but she had “tried to cut a song” that she wrote alone on some of her previous albums.

While “co-writing is so much more fun” for Miranda, she felt the “need” to “try to at least write by myself a little bit.” Miranda admitted, “It’s sometimes not as fun, and it’s hard.” She was also worried about how “vulnerable” the song “Run” is and how she would feel if the song wasn’t well-received.

Miranda Said ‘I Promised To Tell The Truth …’

But Miranda got support from Brendan and “a lot of people in [her] inner, inner circle.” Her friend and co-writer Jon Randall agreed that Miranda had to cut the song, and her inner circle also told her that her new record “would be a good home” for a song like “Run.”

Even though she was scared to be so open with her own music and lyrics, Miranda told Variety that she “appreciated the nudge.” She also remembered that she’s “done those kinds of songs” throughout her career, and the most raw, personal songs are never “a very comfortable place to be.”

Miranda recalled her “early, early stuff” that she wrote when she was just 18. She admitted she was “really raw” and “figuring it out.” However, Miranda believes that the uncomfortable songs are what she “signed up to do.” She told Variety, “I promised to tell the truth when I started this journey, and that’s what I’m doing.”

In a video uploaded on September 21st, Country Beat Daily referred to Miranda’s song “Run” as her “apology song” to Blake. Later in the video, they discussed the “rumors that the song is either an apology or a reflection of their marriage falling apart.”

Country Beat Daily brought up Miranda’s interview with Variety. They confirmed that Miranda didn’t specifically mention if “Run” is an apology song to Blake or that she’s taking the blame for her failed first marriage.

Miranda Lambert’s ‘Battle’

But she did reveal another “battle” she’s currently facing. The good news is Miranda’s “battle” is all about where she spends her time.

She revealed she has “a home in New York” because Brendan’s “family is all there,” including his little boy. Miranda said she gets to see her stepson “a ton,” and she loves it.

At heart, Miranda is a “TNT girl.” She explained, “Half my heart’s in Texas, half in Tennessee.”
