Megyn Kelly has openly criticized Robert De Niro’s recent remarks about the American people, calling them “colossally stupid.” On her show, “The Megyn Kelly Show,” she delved into De Niro’s political activism and questioned its effectiveness. Reflecting on her tenure at Fox News, Kelly recounted an exclusive interview where De Niro first expressed his disdain for Donald Trump during Trump’s campaign against Hillary Clinton. Kelly said, “We had Robert De Niro on camera in an exclusive rant about the ex-president. It was the first time he’d really come out and said how he felt about politics. And we broke that on my show.”
Kelly questioned the impact of De Niro’s political involvement, noting that his efforts did not prevent Trump’s 2016 victory. She asked, “So if he couldn’t make any change in 2016, why does he think he can do it now?”
These comments from Kelly came after a press conference where De Niro voiced his love for his city and his concerns about Trump’s potential for widespread harm. De Niro stated, “I love this city. I don’t want to destroy it. But they will destroy not only the city but the country, and eventually he could destroy the world.”
In her response, Kelly did not hold back, calling De Niro’s comments “colossally stupid.” She argued that someone speaking at a politically charged event should be universally beloved, which she claimed De Niro is not, due to his strong partisan stance. Kelly described him as a prime example of “Trump derangement syndrome,” emphasizing her belief that his outspoken political views have rendered him an ineffective spokesperson in such contexts.
