Artem Chigvintsev Made 911 Call Accusing Nikki Garcia of Throwing Shoes at Him Before His Arrest
The ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro was arrested on Aug. 29 on accusations of corporal injury to spouse and was released on bond the same day
In a 911 call made just before his arrest earlier this week on suspicion of domestic violence, a dispatcher states that Artem Chigvintsev accused Nikki Garcia of throwing shoes at him.
On Sunday, Sept. 1, TMZ published audio of the 911 call, made on Thursday, Aug. 29, in which a dispatcher states that the Dancing with the Stars pro, 42, alleged that Garcia, 40, had thrown shoes at him. He also requested medical assistance.
In the clip of the 911 call, the dispatcher can be heard saying that the call “initially came in as requesting medical, but now he is stating he got into an argument with his wife and his wife threw shoes at RP [reporting party],” per TMZ.
“There is a child on scene. Medical en route,” the dispatcher added, seemingly referring to the couple’s 4-year-old son, Matteo.
“There’s an active 415 [disturbing the peace] in the background responsible,” the dispatcher continued, per TMZ.
Chigvintsev then stated that no more medical assistance would be needed, with the dispatcher reporting: “RP is stating no medical is needed now.”
According to TMZ, the dispatcher noted that Chigvintsev and Garcia were physically separated from each other.
Chigvintsev was arrested and booked in Napa Valley, California, on a charge of corporal injury to spouse just before 10 a.m. on Aug. 29, two days after he and Garcia celebrated their second wedding anniversary, PEOPLE previously reported. The Russian-born dancer was released on $25,000 bond that same day.
A rep for Chigvintsev did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Earlier in the week, the couple marked their wedding anniversary with several social media posts. On Tuesday, Aug. 26, Garcia posted a tribute on Instagram featuring a video containing clips of moments throughout the course of the pair’s relationship.
“This song is our love story. I’ll never forget where I was when I asked Jesus about Artem,” she wrote in part in the caption. “Having a conversation with He & God. How my feelings felt too soon. It all felt too fast. And then this song came on. And that’s when I knew that I was falling in love with him and that it was all meant to be.”

“Happy Anniversary @theartemc I love you! ❤️🔥,” the post finished.
Chigvintsev also shared a post on his own Instagram account in honor of their anniversary, writing: “Happy anniversary my love, can’t see my life without you. You are my everything ❤️.”
In a statement to PEOPLE on Friday, a rep for Garcia asked that the former WWE star’s privacy be respected.
“This is a private matter, and Nikki asks for privacy for her and her family at this time,” the statement read.
