Kids Mock Poor Girl on the Bus — Until Her Face Appears on the News in a Shocking Twist

Children Kick Poorly Dressed Girl from School Bus, ‘You Stink!’ They Say until They See Her Photo on TV — Story of the Day

Kids teased a girl they rode the school bus with because she was ill-dressed, saying she smelt. One day, they were shocked to see her on television, which completely altered their perception of her.

In the first grade, Nikki was different from everyone else. She was weak and delicate, and much shorter than her classmates.

Everyone in her class was aware that Nikki lived in poverty and that her mother was the only person living with her. Regretfully, one day, things became even worse.

Because her mother worked two jobs to support her, Nikki would ride the bus home every day. Mrs. Evans, the bus driver, would anticipate Nikki every day as she was already accustomed to her travelling alone.

As Nikki waited for the bus one day, Mrs. Evans saw that she was quite depressed. She was wearing worn-out clothing that had stains, holes, and runs in it.

“Good morning, Nikki!” Mrs. Evans said hello. “Are you alright?”

Nikki grinned as she glanced up at Mrs. Evans. Greetings, Mrs. Evans. She answered, “Yes, I’m fine,” and boarded the bus. She was accustomed to everyone else ignoring her, so she was relieved that someone was talking to her.

There were already a few kids on the bus when she got on. One second-grader, Martha Reeves, was a pampered, wealthy girl. She giggled at Nikki’s attire as soon as she saw her.

“Oh my gosh!” cried the little girl. She gestured towards Nikki and exclaimed, “Look at that scarecrow!”

Disgusted by the unexpected attention she was receiving, Nikki cast her gaze downward. She sobbed while sitting quietly in the bus’s last row.

“Where did you discover these garments? “In the trash?” In an attempt to taunt Nikki, Martha approached her seat and enquired. She abruptly grabbed her nose as she approached.

“Yuck! She said, “You smell like a garbage bag,” to Nikki. In response, Martha’s companions also pinched their noses.

One person laughed and asked, “Do you bathe or even brush your teeth?”

“You’re not serious. Martha dragged Nikki out of her seat and said, “You can’t come to school looking and smelling like this.” “Go home, please! She pulled at her arm and yelled, “Get off the bus and go back to your dirty house.”

Despite her pain, Nikki remained silent. Rather, she cried in private as the girls teased her and attempted to eject her from the school bus.

Then there was a scream, and the girls leaped. “Enough of it! She said, “Stop torturing this poor girl.”

After hearing everything, Mrs. Evans made the decision to stop the bus in order to defend Nikki. When she shouted for Nikki to sit in front, directly behind the driver’s seat, she started to go towards the back.

Mrs. Evans was unable to stop thinking about the bus incident after they were dropped off at school. She made the decision to learn why Nikki would wear clothes that looked unclean to school.

She so stopped by Nikki’s house after work. She discovered the whole truth and was taken aback by what she discovered. The daughter of Mrs. Evans was employed at a media company. She quickly shared Nikki’s story with her daughter over the phone.

The next week, Nikki arrived at the bus stop wearing tattered clothing. With their noses covered, Martha and her companions whispered to one another. Mrs. Evans shook her head, but she was relieved that Nikki’s face was no longer the target of hurtful remarks from the girls.

A few days later, parents, teachers, and kids all attended a meeting at the school. Neither Nikki nor her mother arrived. In the middle of the meeting, Mrs. Evans entered the classroom and switched on the television.

A story about Nikki was being shown on one of the most popular TV networks. The station picked it up after Mrs. Evans’ daughter shot it.

Mrs. Evans came to the realisation that the entire nation may benefit from learning about Nikki’s life after hearing her narrative. The bus driver was inspired by her strong demeanour, even though she was a young and fragile girl.

Nikki learnt the value of independence from her fatherless upbringing. Insurance declined to pay for Nikki’s mother’s medical care once she became unwell. As a result, Nikki’s mother was unable to cook for her, clean the house, or drive Nikki to school because she was bedridden.

While her mother was ill, Nikki assumed responsibility for caring for both herself and her. She did the housework, emptied the trash, prepared meals for herself and her mother, laundered her own clothes, and gave her mother her medication.

Nikki had been taking on tasks even before she started school, which is why her clothing were often ripped and soiled, as Martha and her fellow pupils discovered after watching the presentation.

The diminutive but courageous and powerful Nikki was extolled on television news. Speaking to the parents present, Mrs. Evans disclosed the true reason behind her decision to switch on the television.

“Every day on the bus, your kids make fun of Nikki. I hope the show made you see how essential it is to treat everyone with kindness, kids. She advised them to always be kind because everyone is going through a struggle that not everyone is aware of.

No one ever made fun of Nikki again after that day. On the way to school, the children would always greet her first and show her love by giving her drinks and snacks.

To help Nikki wear clean clothing to school every day, Martha and her friends also gave her some of their gowns. In order for Nikki’s mother to have surgery, their parents also combined their funds.

The woman was soon allowed to go home from the hospital and resume her job. To their amazement, the TV station’s director was waiting for them at home with a cheque.

“The TV viewers who were inspired by your story donated these. As she presented the cheque, the director remarked, “We hope you use this to secure Nikki’s future and improve your living situation.”

Nikki and her mother were able to use the funds to pay for her college education. Additionally, they were able to purchase a modest new home and live comfortably.

What does this narrative teach us?

It was often said in Scotland that “do not judge by appearances; a rich heart may be under a poor coat.” Without understanding that Nikki had been finding it difficult to care for herself throughout her mother’s illness, the kids were quick to criticise her appearance. Since we never know what someone else is going through, it’s crucial to avoid passing judgement on them too hastily.
