‘Hope He’s Okay’: Tom Hanks’ Appearance on ‘SNL’ Sparks Concern Among Viewers – Video
Tom Hanks’ body language during his “SNL” appearance has recently caused online criticism. This follows after the actor was observed displaying similar behavior at another industry event in 2022.
Hollywood icon Tom Hanks joined other prominent figures in the industry in a “SNL” spoof on December 22, more than a month after discussing the physical and lifestyle changes that accompany aging in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Despite the fact that the spoof was funny, Hanks’ hands raised some concerns among internet users.
In the joyous sketch honoring Martin Short’s admission into “Saturday Night Live’s Five-Timers Club,” Hanks was featured alongside a number of Hollywood’s most renowned celebrities.
The idea was centered on a lavish yearly Christmas celebration held in a lavish location that exuded coziness and custom. In the background, bookcases with red stockings and festive garlands flanked a decked-out Christmas tree that glistened.
A-list celebrities Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, Melissa McCarthy, and other entertainment titans joined Hanks on stage while wearing a navy blue robe emblazoned with the club’s emblem.
The audience frequently cheered, thrilled by the celebrity interactions and humorous timing, and the skit was full of lighthearted humor, clever repartee, and self-referential jabs. Every second of the skit exuded charm and companionship, from Fey’s witty remarks to Short’s enthusiastic motions.
But viewers with keen eyes couldn’t help but pick up on subtle physical clues about Hanks. Hanks’ hands seemed to tremble a little as he sat with them in his lap.
He held two beers and then handed one to Short, displaying a similar tremor. Despite being brief, these incidents generated a lot of online discussion.

With one user simply writing, “So sad hope he’s okay,” and another echoing, “Hope he’s okay,” others expressed their hopes that Hanks’ health is in good shape.
More emotional comments followed, with still another witness claiming, “Tom Hanks is looking so old did anyone else clock his hands shaking I’ll cry rn.”
One user compared Hanks to a political public figure, noting, “Tom Hanks was just on ‘SNL’ and he looked ROUGH and I noticed his hands now have the same shake that Bill Clinton has acquired.” “Did anyone notice Tom Hanks’s hands shaking unnaturally in this sketch?” inquired another witness.
Before his much talked appearance on “SNL,” Hanks pondered on his body and aging in an honest interview with Entertainment Tonight at the beginning of November.
“No,” the actor said firmly but humorously when asked if he ever wished he could go back in time to a younger version of himself. Look, I’m 68 years old. We found that playing 35 was the most difficult. At that point, your metabolism slows down, gravity pulls you down, your bones begin to deteriorate, and your posture changes.
However, Hanks disclosed that he believes his current health is better than it was in his youth. “I believe my physical condition has improved. Do you know why? Now that my children are grown, I can eat healthily and get some good exercise. Don’t do that when you’re thirty-five! Life is really difficult.
With a blend of humor and realism, the actor also described how he currently keeps himself healthy. “I’m 68 years old, have type 2 diabetes, and I’m just taking care of my temple, sweetie. I’m just trying to do that. That’s it,” he concluded with a smile.
The recent concern over Hanks’ trembling hands during his “SNL” appearance isn’t the first time he has worried the public with the same issue.
Reportedly, in 2022, during a promotional event for his film “Elvis” — in which he stars alongside Austin Butler (who plays the iconic Elvis Presley) — Hanks’ shaking hands also drew attention.
While speaking into a microphone at the event, his hands began shaking. Attempting to steady himself, the actor shifted his grip by placing his left hand below his right on the microphone. At another point, he even switched hands briefly in what seemed to be an effort to maintain control.
Although Hanks has yet to address the hand tremors that fans have recently observed, the actor has previously been open about his health challenges.
In 2020, Hanks and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, announced they had contracted COVID-19. At the time, Hanks shared the details of their illness with characteristic candor and humor.
Speaking about their experience, Hanks explained that their symptoms differed and the discomfort they endured lasted about two weeks.
“My wife lost her sense of taste and smell, she had severe nausea, she had a much higher fever than I did. I just had crippling body aches, I was very fatigued all the time and I couldn’t concentrate on anything for more than about 12 minutes. That last bit is kinda like my natural state anyway,” he added, chuckling.
Despite his lighthearted tone, Hanks also addressed the seriousness of his health at the time, acknowledging his pre-existing conditions. “When we were in the hospital, I said: ‘I’m 63, I have type 2 diabetes, I had a stent in my heart – am I a red flag case?’” he recalled.
However, he stated that medics reassured him as long as his temperature didn’t spike and his lungs kept clear of pneumonia, there wasn’t a huge cause for fear.
“I’m not one who wakes up in the morning worried if I’m going to see the end of the day or not. I’m quite relaxed about that,” Tom Hanks stated of the situation overall.
While the recent hand tremors remain untreated, Hanks’ openness about his past health issues serves as a reminder of his resilience and ability to approach challenges head-on.
