When a disabled girl falls behind and doesn’t have a prom date, her father surprises her by taking her to the event. Their lives are changed by the prize he receives the following day as a token of appreciation for his love for his child.
“Look, Molly!” called out a voice to the 17-year-old girl mourning beside her mother Daisy’s coffin. Moments later, someone approached her and said, “Your father is here!”
Molly’s mother and her father, Danny, had separated eleven years prior. Molly has only heard awful things about her father ever since, such as that he was a “drunkard.”
Molly didn’t harbor resentment toward Danny, but she often longed for the bond they once shared as father and daughter. However, everything was about to change after her mother’s passing.
“Hi, sweetheart,” Danny said, placing a wreath on his late ex-wife’s coffin before embracing his daughter warmly.
“Is that your pickup, sir? Half of the parking is blocked by it. Would you mind relocating it? Danny, a truck driver, was questioned by a visitor.
“That’s my truck, yes. Give me a moment. I recently got to know my daughter. I hope you get it. I’m grateful.
When Danny first met Molly, he was thrilled. The child support he paid for her was the only connection he had with her throughout the years. Daisy was afraid he might turn into a negative influence, so she never let him see Molly.
After the funeral, everyone departed. After packing all of Molly’s belongings, Danny informed her that they were heading to his place.
“A package? “Who sent it?” he asked himself. “For Dad of the Year” was written on a card.
“But why, father? I’m unable to leave the house. I lived here with Mom. It’s loaded with our recollections.
Danny ignored her protests, causing Molly to frown in frustration. He knew he couldn’t leave her by herself, especially since she often relied on a wheelchair when not using crutches. Molly’s limp was the result of a condition that had affected her left leg since she was six years old.
Molly moved in with her father two days later. The house was small and messy, but it was cozy and gave her a sense of belonging and affection.
As the days went by, Danny found it harder to do things for Molly. He never witnessed her growing up, thus he was unable to handle most tasks, such as braiding her hair. He watched tutorials on the internet to understand how to accomplish it. However, it was not all.
In order to provide Molly a comfortable place to sleep, he cleared out his bedroom. To ensure she had a good night’s sleep, he even purchased a new, fluffy bed. If there was one thing Danny kept a secret, it was his frequent disappearance at night, even though he did everything in his power to make his daughter feel at home.
After falling asleep, Molly was unaware of her father’s nighttime whereabouts. As her mother used to tell her, she could only assume that dad was hanging out with his pals in the pub.
A few days later, Molly sobbed as she got off the school bus and went inside their house. The door was locked, she discovered. A note was hidden under a plant. “Under the pot are the keys. I’ll be back shortly. See you! – Dad.
Molly frowned, remembering how her mother used to tell her about her dad’s “weird” evening rituals. Considering that it was four in the afternoon and her father was out drinking, she scowled.
After several hours, Danny never came home. Molly prepared pasta for herself and her father. She then sobbed as she lay on her bed.
“I wouldn’t be the odd one out if I were regular. I would have looked for a prom date.
As it happened, they had been told about their senior prom by Molly’s teacher. Molly was the only one among her classmates who had not found a prom date. There was no one who wanted to take her. Who would want to dance with someone who had a limp, she thought.
When Danny got home, he heard Molly sobbing so loudly.
“Darling, what happened? What’s causing your tears?
He heard about the prom from Molly. “I have no plans for a date. At prom, I even asked a few boys if they would at least dance with me, but they laughed and said no. Daddy, I don’t want to attend the prom! I want to be by myself! “Good night!”
Molly turned away from Danny and soaked her pillow in tears as she feigned sleep.
Danny couldn’t abandon his distressed daughter. He got Molly a gorgeous prom outfit the following day. Molly was also in for a heart-stopping surprise on prom day. She was going to prom with her dad.
A loud screeching boom of an engine caught the attention of senior students and their parents who were swarming outside the hall.
Danny leaped off the vehicle. After setting a wheelchair on the grass, he assisted Molly in getting out. As the crowd looked on in awe, he pushed the wheelchair on the red carpet.
As the music began to play, Danny and his daughter took to the dance floor. In time with the melodic night, he picked Molly and carried her in circles. Molly laughed uncontrollably as her father continued to rock her in his arms, temporarily forgetting that she had a disability.
“My father truly is my superhero. There is nothing in this world that I love more than him. After the dance, Molly sobbed to her friends, “I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to be his daughter.”
Danny, meanwhile, stole the show. Every parent gathered around him to give him encouragement and applause. Then, with little idea of how that night would soon alter their lives, Danny gave a brief overview of himself and his daughter.
When Danny and Molly got home, they talked about how much fun they had. After putting Molly to sleep in her bedroom, Danny quietly left the house.
As it turned out, Danny had been working as a caretaker at a nearby nursing home as a second job. He worked overtime in addition to his part-time job as a truck driver in order to save money for his daughter’s medical care. Many informed Danny and Daisy that Molly would never be able to walk after her impairment was diagnosed years ago.
However, a doctor had promised to heal the girl and help her walk again. As a result, Danny stopped going out to bars with his pals and began working two jobs.
Daisy believed he was squandering his time at the pub because she misinterpreted him. She never trusted Danny when he tried to explain things to her. They soon parted ways as a result of her persistent skepticism and contentious arguments. Danny worked tirelessly for the following few years, never bothering because his only concern was saving money for Molly’s surgery.
Every time Danny thought about his history, it hurt. He was still thinking about the awful things his ex-wife had said to him, even as he drove to work that evening. Unprepared for the surprise that awaited him and Molly, he wrapped up his shift and went home.
When Danny got home from work that morning, he was pleasantly surprised to discover a gift in his mailbox.
“A package? “Who sent it?” he asked himself. “Dad of the Year!” was written on one of the cards.
Danny discovered a $10,000 cheque and another message inside:
We hope this will make your daughter’s life better, Danny. We hope you spend more evening time with her and wish her well during her procedure. “Your Prom Buddies, best wishes!”
Danny understood that this was the work of the parents he had met the night before. He told Molly the wonderful news while crying with happiness.
“Really? This is unbelievable, my god, dad. On his shoulders, she sobbed and laughed.
Molly had surgery using the $10,000 check and the money Danny had saved. It worked, and she eventually gained the ability to walk without crutches.
In order to spend more time with his daughter, Danny resigned from his second job. She was scheduled to depart in three months after receiving a scholarship to study architecture in another state.
Danny wanted to use his time with Molly as efficiently as possible. He gave her cooking, dancing, cycling, and even running lessons. All he wanted was for his daughter to lead a typical life and never remember the times she spent on crutches and a wheelchair.
What does this narrative teach us?
A parent’s love is the strongest love in the universe. Danny went above and above to assist his daughter in walking. In order to pay for her surgery, he worked two jobs. When she didn’t have a date, he even took her to prom.
For children, a father is always a superhero. Danny persisted in trying to get his daughter to walk again despite everyone telling him she would never be able to. He served as her life’s motivation and real superhero.
