The Person Who Killed Young Bride Samantha Miller on Her Wedding Day Receives Maximum Sentence – Details
On the same day that the woman who killed the new bride was punished in court, Samantha Miller Hutchinson’s grieving husband spoke out about his wife’s passing.
The punishment of Jamie Lee Komoroski, who pleaded guilty to a number of offences related to what transpired, was decided by the court overseeing the case of Samantha Miller Hutchinson, who was murdered on her wedding day.
On April 28, 2023, Jamie struck a golf cart carrying Samantha, her husband Aric Hutchinson, and two other members of Aric’s family, resulting in Samantha’s death at the age of 34. Investigators found that Jamie was travelling at 65 mph at the time of the collision.
In the golf cart, Aric and Samantha were being escorted back to their rental home by Aric’s family, which included Benjamin Garrett, the widower’s brother-in-law, and Benjamin’s son, Brogan Garrett
Folly Beach Police Chief Andrew Gilreath said the incident, which killed Samantha and injured the other three, happened in the 1200 block of East Ashley Avenue in Folly Beach, South Carolina, at approximately 10 p.m.
Jamie subsequently admitted guilt to one count of felony DUI, one count of reckless homicide, and two charges of DUI causing grave bodily injury or death, and Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced her to 25 years in jail.
Jamie faces a sentence of 10 years for reckless homicide, 25 years for felony DUI with death, and 15 years for the two charges causing grave bodily injury, broken down by count.
The judge did point out that Jamie will serve a total of 25 years in prison because all of her sentences are concurrent. When Judge Deadra questioned Jamie about her guilty plea during her trial, a news outlet said the lady assured the judge she “was not coerced into entering the guilty pleas and was waiving a jury trial to which she would be entitled.”
“I feel like the punishment fit the crime,” Aric said in response to Jamie’s sentencing. I believe she is apologetic. But that doesn’t erase the fact that my wife and Sam aren’t here, that our family isn’t here, or that we’re all hurt. Therefore, that will undoubtedly take some time.
Samantha and Aric’s family members got a chance to speak before the court before the case started. Benjamin, who was operating the golf cart at the time of the collision, talked about how hard it was for him to accept that he had not finished the one duty he had planned for the wedding.
“I didn’t get to finish my one and only job. We were run [sic] through rather than struck. That night should have been the end for all four of us. Sam saved us, I think. She would have taken one for everyone of us; that’s who she is,” Benjamin revealed. Jamie and her family members also had the opportunity to speak during this time. She said, “For the rest of my life I will carry this guilt and take full responsibility.”
Aric broke down in tears when he spoke to the court on the day Jamie was sentenced, expressing his anguish at having promised to protect Samantha only to lose her a few hours later.
“No one should ever have to endure it. Every day, I reflect on that evening and my final moments with Sam. “I kissed her forehead after she told me she didn’t want the night to end, and the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital,” a tearful Aric said.
He went on, “I knew right away when I saw my mom’s face, still in the bridal gown from the previous evening. So I said, ‘Where’s Sam?’ I was aware of her absence.
In order to help pay for Samantha’s funeral and Aric’s and his other loved ones’ medical bills after the crash, Aric’s mother, Annette Hutchinson, created a GoFundMe campaign
Annette wrote after placing the disaster and events in perspective: “Sam passed away due to her injuries. Aric will require a lengthy recuperation due to his severe condition, which includes a brain injury, several fractures, and one of two reconstruction surgeries. Ben suffered significant injuries, as did Brogan.
She said, “At the hospital, five hours after Sam put Aric’s wedding band on his finger and they exchanged vows, I was given it in a plastic bag. The love of Aric’s life has left him. Annette included heartbreaking images with her message, demonstrating the extent of the three men’s injuries.
Annette posted an update on September 13, 2023, in which she conveyed her sincere appreciation to everyone who wrote condolences and donated.
Additionally, the widower’s mother gave updates on the health of Aric, Benjamin, and Brogan. Annette then revealed that Aric, who had spent time in the intensive care unit, was experiencing a great lot of stress and anguish, and that he had been readmitted to the hospital twice because of terrible pain and nausea.
Only once he was physically able to fly across the nation did Benjamin get to see his family again in Utah after spending eleven days in the hospital. “We are forever grateful that my daughter’s son Brogan was relatively uninjured, other than a concussion, bruises, scratches, and soreness,” said Annette.
She continued by sharing heartwarming facts about Samantha and Aric’s romance, which started in early 2019 and included travel, a move across the nation to be together, and an engagement in June 2021.
On behalf of Lisa Miller, a family member, and in honour of Samantha, another loved one, Mandi Jenkins, made another GoFundMe campaign.
Mandi’s letter was accompanied with a collection of lovely pictures of Samantha and Aric on their wedding day with their families, as well as additional pictures of Samantha with her parents, sister, brother, best friend, and dad.
“Love was the essence of Sam Miller. No one else on the earth has ever shone as brightly as she did, and never will. She made a lot of noise. She spoke from her heart, not her voice. Mandi recalled the late bride, “She could make anyone, anywhere, smile ear to ear, probably with a vulgar joke.”
She continued by listing other wonderful attributes that contributed to Samantha’s status as the “unbelievably special” and adored person she was prior to her tragic death.
The final day of Samantha’s life was spent in the same daring manner. She couldn’t wait to begin her life with Aric. That day, she was unafraid and unhesitating. On the beach, you could sense the love,” Mandi said
Mandi begged, “Please donate whatever you can give to our family,” after enumerating all the roles Samantha had played in her life, including that of sister, daughter, mother to two cats, and friend. We need all the assistance we can get because we are experiencing unspeakable sorrow.”
A family member named Brittany Clawson Hutchinson posted a heartfelt message on Facebook in addition to the GoFundMe set up for Samantha’s loved ones.
Beautiful moments from Samantha’s life, such as the day Aric proposed and their wedding day, were documented in her video.
The collection of images and videos also featured other enjoyable times spent with Samantha’s family, such as going to events and filming adorable dances to post on social media.
