My Father Abandoned Me as a Child and I Took Revenge on Him – Story of the Day
When Amanda was just a baby, her father left the family. When she saw a picture of him with his new fiancée, her long-standing resentment of him returned. She desired retribution. How is Amanda going to discipline her father?
After a long day at work, Amanda came home to the charming home where she was raised. The small house was the only real haven for her after a long, exhausting day. It brought back memories of her early years and also brought to mind her mother, who had passed away.
She reclaimed this house as her own after growing out of foster care. It was more than simply a structure; it served as a bridge to her history and the affection she held for her mother.
When she noticed a folded newspaper close to the door, she exclaimed, “Oh, I forgot to pick the newspaper,” Before getting ready to prepare herself a cool cup of tea, she picked it up and placed it on the kitchen counter.
When the newspaper was ready, Amanda sat at the kitchen table and unfolded it, anticipating her usual perusal of the headlines. But today was different.
Amanda saw something startling in the newspaper. It included an image of her father, Robert, standing next to Clara, his youthful new fiancée. It served as a notice of their upcoming wedding festivities.
The agony of her father’s long-ago desertion came flooding back as she gazed at the picture. It brought back memories of her father’s betrayal of his vow to stand by his wife’s side no matter what. When his wife became ill, he fled and never came back.
After years of perseverance, the hurt and rage had abruptly come back to the surface. Amanda thought of her mother and caressed the silver stud in her ear. On one of her birthdays, her mother had given her these exact studs.
Amanda thought to herself, “Betrayal is nothing new to you,” as she started to formulate a strategy. She chose to confront her father because she was furious over being betrayed and hurt.
The following morning, she came up to his house, a tidy home that stood in sharp contrast to her lowly origins. She waited for the ideal opportunity while hiding behind a big oak tree.
Her father came out as soon as the front door opened. Carla, the woman from the newspaper, was behind him and gave him a brief farewell kiss.
Amanda said, “Oh God,” and turned her head away. The image of her father kissing another woman was too much for her to bear.
As Robert and Carla climbed into their automobiles and drove off, Amanda watched. After they had gone, Amanda emerged from hiding and looked about her father’s house. She was trying to figure out how to get inside the house.
“The window!” When Amanda’s gaze fell upon an open window on the second level of the house, she whispered. It was easy for her to enter the house from the window because she had spent a lot of her childhood climbing trees.
Amanda soon discovered herself in her father’s bedroom. Amanda moved carefully towards the bed, her hands shaking a little as she started to tamper with the carefully laid-out sheets.
Then she took off one earring, a simple but profound piece, and set it on the bed. It was intended to foment mistrust and strife. She hurried out the window of the house and waited for the perfect opportunity to execute her next strategy.
Amanda’s pulse thumping with excitement, she watched from her hiding place as Carla came home. Shortly afterward, her father’s vehicle arrived and he walked contentedly inside the house. After a few minutes, Amanda went to the door and pressed the bell.
“How can I help you?” Carla opened the door and enquired.
“To see Robert, I’m here. Are you his maid? Amanda asked, pretending to be perplexed.
Carla said, “No, I’m his fiancée,” while displaying her engagement ring.
“A fiancée? That jerk! I was the only person in his life, he told me. Amanda cried out.
Perplexed, Carla refuted Amanda’s assertions. Amanda said, “Oh, but you knew me very well a few hours ago, didn’t you?” even though Robert denied knowing her when he first showed up.
Now enraged, Carla accepted Amanda’s deception.
Amanda remarked, “I don’t want to cause any trouble,” “I’m only here to retrieve the earring I misplaced. It is very important to me and belongs to my mother.
Carla let her look for the earring even though Robert wouldn’t let her in. Amanda quickly arrived in the bedroom where the stud was placed.
“Oh, here it is!” From the bed, Amanda snatched it up.
“I can’t believe it!” Robert was shouted at by Carla. “You are unfaithful! What brought the earring into our bed?
“What? You’re not serious!” Robert objected. “She’s a liar!”
“You betrayed me, then lied about it!” Carla decided to cancel their wedding and go, accusing him.
After apologising, Amanda hurried out of the house. After making her father feel the hurt of treachery, she felt content.
“Finally!” she said as she made her way to her car, breathing a sigh of relief.
A week later, Amanda heard her coworkers discussing someone’s lavish wedding while she was cleaning tables at her job at a restaurant.
She questioned them, “Which wedding are you guys talking about?”
“Come on, Amanda!” “Stacey,” stated one of Amanda’s colleagues. “Are you not following the news? “Have you never heard of Robert, that businessman?”
“He married Carla, this woman. Their wedding cost millions of dollars. It was enormous. Another coworker, Sarah, said.
“What?” Amanda was taken aback but kept her feelings to herself. “I mean… For a wedding, who spends millions? That’s startling.
Amanda felt like a failure on the inside, even though she feigned being upset by the excessive spending. After what Robert had done to his wife and Amanda, she didn’t want him to start over.
Her mother’s words, “Anger is like a heavy stone, Amanda,” kept repeating in her head. “It weighs you down and you carry it with you. You have to let it go sometimes. Forgiveness is the only choice in certain situations.
When Amanda was a child, her mother would say these things whenever she was bullied. She consistently urged Amanda to provide forgiveness to those who had wronged her.
Amanda closed her eyes and thought about what she had done. She quick
ly came to the realisation that the solution to her hatred was not to hurt her father or destroy their relationship. She had to face him.
Later following week, Amanda was filled with curiosity rather than rage as she stood outside Robert’s residence. She inhaled deeply before pressing the doorbell.
“Why are you here again?” The door was opened by Carla.
“I’m here to talk to Robert,” Amanda stated. “His girlfriend is not me. I said a falsehood. I am… I am his daughter.
“What?” Carla knitted her brows. “Is this a joke or what?”
“It’s not. I—”
“Who’s there, Carla?” Before approaching the door, Robert questioned his wife.
“Why have you returned here? Please, just leave us alone. Amanda was shouted at by Robert.
“Dad… “It’s me,” said Amanda. “I came here to—”
“Amanda? Is that you?
Amanda’s eyes filled with tears. “Yes, father. It’s me. Emotion suffocated her voice. “I simply You had to tell me why you went. Why did you abandon Mom and me?
A glimmer of pain passed across Robert’s face as it relaxed.
“Adams, come in. Come on in.” Carla was still standing clumsily in the doorway when he led her inside.
Amanda grabbed the silver earring firmly in her fingers and sat down inside.
She said, “Mom got so sick after you left,” in a voice that was hardly audible. “We had a lot of trouble. After her death, I was placed in foster care. It wasn’t simple.
With his hands clenching and unclenching, Robert hung his head.
“I… He murmured, “I had no idea things were so horrible. “I thought you were well cared for after…”
“Who do you suppose would have been concerned about us? We were alone. Dad, you were the one we needed most. Mom needed you. “Adamanta said.”
The burden of their common past weighed heavily on them. Amanda talked of the resentment that festered within of her for years, the rage and confusion she held. Out of a perverted sense of vengeance, she revealed her previous scheme to ruin his current relationship.
Robert listened carefully as Amanda opened out. His face was marked with remorse and shame.
He finally said, “I understand your anger, Amanda,” in a raspy voice. “What I did cannot be justified. Running away was a cowardly move.
He inhaled deeply before starting his own tale. He talked about the overwhelming shame he experienced after abandoning his wife, Amanda’s mother, to face her illness on her own.
He disclosed a time of financial hardship, bad decisions, and self-destruction. Rebuilding his firm had required years of unrelenting effort. Shame had kept him from going back, a perverse reasoning that just made him feel more alone.
He responded, “I never meant to abandon you both,” with tears in his eyes. “I felt regret for my choice every day. However, I was terrified by the time I had the opportunity to go back. I’m scared of being rejected and of witnessing your suffering. I’m sorry, Amanda. Please.
Amanda felt the depth of his remorse. He was a flawed man who was crippled by shame and dread, not a villain. She felt a glimmer of understanding replace the wrath that had overwhelmed her.
She answered, “I guess I forgive you, Dad,” which even surprised her. “I can’t hold this fury any longer, yet it doesn’t change what happened. It’s quite a load.
Robert’s face lit up with relief. He extended his arm to take her hand, the warmth of the touch bridging the years of distance.
He said, “Thank you, Amanda,” in an emotionally charged voice. “Thank you for giving me a chance.”
